Emulab FAQ: Software Setup: How is experiment idle monitoring done?

Emulab FAQ: Software Setup: How is experiment idle monitoring done?

The Emulab idle monitor is a process called slothd that runs on the experiment nodes.

It reports CPU usage, network output and ssh/serial port user input regularly to the Emulab "Boss" server, whence it is reported on the experiment info page. If slothd is not working, the experiment page will show a "stale" indication.

Usage reported is for a whole experimental node computer, not just a specific user within the node. Any non-idle node makes the whole experiment non-idle.

An experiment that is idle for longer than the experiment meta-data specifies may be [https:wiki:swapping.html#idleness idle-swapped].
