Not sure this is documented ... but the proper way to do this so that it is "sticky" (entered in the DB so it doesn't get wiped out) is:

boss> withadminprivs /usr/testbed/sbin/unixgroups -a mike wheel

Also note that people with "admin" status are automatically added to group wheel by the account system.
